CBN orders banks to collect old N500, N1,000 notes

  The old N500 and N1,000 notes should be turned in to banks right away, according to a directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Yet it set the maximum amount that banks might take in at N500,000. The CBN insisted that the older currencies were no longer acceptable forms of payment. Go to your bank, but fill out the paperwork beforehand, a CBN representative instructed. Use the reference code you create as a guide. The banks will obtain it from you using your code. But, if it exceeds 500,000, you must deposit money to the CBN. According to a bank source, the CBN instructed the banks to collect the funds instead of bringing them to the CBN headquarters due to access issues. The CBN earlier launched a gateway on its website and required anyone wishing to return outdated notes to fill it out and get a number. Presidential election: Obi, Atiku begin battle to upturn Tinubu victory

  The struggle has now moved to the courts, where the Labour Party's Mr. Peter Obi and the People's Democratic Party's (PDP) Atiku Abubakar are attempting to have Bola Tinubu's victory declared illegal following the completion of the 2023 presidential election. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, proclaimed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the winner of the election on February 25. Results announced by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu show that Tinubu won with 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively. Obi Cancels Trip, Heads To Court Personally After INEC Refused To Allow LP To Inspect writer

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has revealed that he will be heading to court personally with his lawyers after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) allegedly refused to allow LP to inspect sensitive materials. Recall that INEC asked the court to vary the orders that were granted to Peter Obi and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to inspect materials used for the presidential election. Th e Court of Appeal also slated March 8th to rule on the application by INEC to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) that was used for the presidential poll. Naira redesign: Old, new notes are legal tender – CBN reveals

Both old and new notes are now considered legal tender, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Acting Director of Corporate Communications CBN, Dr Isa Abdulmumin announced this on Tuesday. He stated that commercial banks had started issuing both the old and new notes to their clients. However, he stressed that the apex bank has not yet released a formal statement. Presidential election results: Tinubu leads Atiku, Obi as INEC declares 20 states

  Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu is in the lead after Saturday’s general election. As of Monday night, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared collated results in 20 states. Tinubu is ahead with 5,862,453 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has secured 4,288,434 votes so far. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, is currently in third place with 2,834,932; Rabiu Kwankwaso, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, polled 1,315,549. Interestingly, Tinubu is the only top contender that failed to win home state, losing Lagos to Obi. Atiku won in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state – Katsina. The results from other states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are expected to be presented today from 11am.
