UPDATED: I’ll be your servant, Tinubu promises Nigerians

The president-elect, Bola Tinubu, Wednesday, assured Nigerians that he would be the chief servant and serve Nigeria with all he’s got.

“I will serve you; be your servant and not your leader. I will work with you and make Nigeria a great country,” Tinubu said at the APC Presidential Campaign Council headquarters in Abuja shortly after he was declared the winner of the presidential poll.

“Finally, I thank the Nigerian people for their abiding belief in our democracy. I shall be a fair leader to all Nigerians. I will be in tune with your aspirations, charge up your energies and harness your talents to deliver a nation that we can be proud of,” he added.

This is as he also appealed to opposition parties and his challengers to join him in his mission to achieve the desired country.

“To my fellow candidates, former VP Atiku, former governor Kwankwaso, former governor Obi and all others, I extend the hand of friendship. This was a competitive, high-spirited campaign.

“You have my utmost respect.

“Let’s collaborate and work together. I promise to work with you,” Tinubu said while giving his acceptance speech in Abuja.

At the event were his vice-president-elect, Kashim Shettima, All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and APC governors, among others.

Speaking further, the former Lagos State governor commended Nigerians, particularly those who voted for opposition parties, saying their move helped in deepening democracy in Nigeria.

He said, “Whether you are Batified, Atikulated, Obidient, Kwankwasiyya, or have any other political affiliation, you voted for a better, more hopeful nation and I thank you for your participation and dedication to our democracy.

“You decided to place your trust in the democratic vision of a Nigeria founded on shared prosperity and one nurtured by the ideals of unity, justice, peace and tolerance. Renewed hope has dawned in Nigeria.”

It was reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission during the early hours of Wednesday declared Tinubu, who is the APC presidential candidate during Saturday’s election, as the president-elect.

Tinubu was declared the president-elect after the 70-year-old polled 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election.

The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced Tinubu as the winner at the International Collation Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu won the election ahead of other contenders  — the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi; and the New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Naira redesign: Old, new notes are legal tender – CBN reveals

Both old and new notes are now considered legal tender, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Acting Director of Corporate Communications CBN, Dr Isa Abdulmumin announced this on Tuesday. He stated that commercial banks had started issuing both the old and new notes to their clients. However, he stressed that the apex bank has not yet released a formal statement. He said, “Banks are paying old notes as well as new notes. They are all legal tender. "Well, the CBN hasn't made a formal remark about the matter. Anyone banks give to you, you can collect. Presidential election results: Tinubu leads Atiku, Obi as INEC declares 20 states

  Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu is in the lead after Saturday’s general election. As of Monday night, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared collated results in 20 states. Tinubu is ahead with 5,862,453 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has secured 4,288,434 votes so far. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, is currently in third place with 2,834,932; Rabiu Kwankwaso, New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, polled 1,315,549. Interestingly, Tinubu is the only top contender that failed to win home state, losing Lagos to Obi. Atiku won in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state – Katsina. The results from other states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are expected to be presented today from 11am.
