Obi represents new path for Nigerians – Atedo Peterside

A foremost economist and founder of Anap Foundation,  Atedo Peterside, has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in Saturday’s election saying that he (Obi) represents a new path for Nigerians.

The founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc made this declaration while speaking on Arise TV’s programme tagged, ‘The 2023 Presidential Election in view.’

Explaining the reasons why he will vote for LP’s Obi, Peterside said, “He (Obi) represents a new path. I like the fact that the new path does not have an absolute majority in the National Assembly because it will stop the executives from bringing ‘nonsense on economic fronts’ to the parliament and in advance is rubber-stamped by their whole party while sabotaging Nigerians’ interest.

“I prefer an arrangement where nobody controls the parliament. You bring a project for deliberation, it will be approved only if it is based on national interest. So, it’s a new thing,” he stressed.

While fielding questions on the personality and experience of the LP presidential candidate, the foremost economist said he slightly disagreed with people who concluded that Obi has no federal experience because he served on the Economic Management team of former President Goodluck Jonathan for four years with Obi when he was the Anambra State governor.

They were Obi and the former Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd.).

“So for the four years, all the arguments on power sector reform, fuel subsidy and others, Obi actively partook in them and if he was always on the wrong side on economic matters, I would not have voted for him.

“I believe that there is a new arrangement that he represents and he wants to bring on board with his wealth of economic and governance experience, whether he succeeds is a different matter.

“He brings hope and everybody wants to buy his hope and I want to too.

“If he doesn’t emerge, I will accept it because I’m a democrat,” he maintained.
